ROOF RESORATION 2020

Wesley United Church in downtown Galt, Cambridge Ontario faced the challenge of restoring its roof support structure, which was in imminent danger of collapse.

Follow Rev Keith Hagerman as he climbs up into the heights of the immense rafter structure above the church's ceiling, and reveals an unseen part of Galt's history.

RAISE THE ROOF - A PICTORIAL

Several years ago, Wesley United Church learned that the walls of the sanctuary were slowly collapsing outwards, and the roof would soon be unsafe to hold services under. An engineering team outlined a super-plan to save the building, and with that plan came a super-cost that stunned the congregation... how could it possibly raise the funds needed?

The church had faced such a challenge once before (its steeple required expensive repairs 40 years ago) and it rose to that challenge, and repaired the steeple. Once again, that challenge has been met! This video outlines the technical challenges that were overcome to "raise the roof" and secure it from collapsing.
